What Are Complementary Colors?
Complementary colors are two colors that are on opposite sides of the color wheel. When deciding what to wear for portraits, knowing which colors are complimentary can help guide you to choosing what colors compliment the type of background you want.
For example, if you're wanting a green, wooded background, choosing an outfit with red tones will help the subject "pop" out from the background and adds contrast. If you prefer fall colors, blue and purple hues would compliment the reds, yellows, and oranges.
Wearing complimentary colors is certainly not a requirement, however. If you want your outfits to match the color of your living room, choose the colors you prefer and I will do my job to make sure you don't get lost in the background. As a photographer, I don't just take photos, I create them. Beautiful colors is just one piece of the formula to a gorgeous portrait.
